Description
Greens without Green!
A plein air watercolour workshop with Barry Herniman
Saturday 29th June 2024
10am – 4pm Attic Studio & Stroudwater Canal
All welcome
Enjoy a brilliant day ‘en plein air’ painting all the myriad shades of summer foliage….without using a single green!
We’re delighted to welcome highly experienced tutor, author and ambassador for Schmincke watercolours, Barry Herniman, back to Pegasus Art to teach this colour mixing plein air workshop. If you are a novice watercolour painter wishing to take your skill set to the next level, this is a great opportunity. Moving away from the traditional ‘rules’ of a fixed palette, Barry will show you how to mix your own. Landscape painting is challenging in many ways, one of which is how to tackle ‘all those greens’. “I used to use a lot of viridian, along with a whole plethora of other greens. It's a lovely colour but one which seemed to dominate my paintings no matter how I modified it. Then I purchased a book by an American artist who mixed all her greens and that for me was an eureka moment. So now in my palette I don’t have a single green, rather mixing my own depending on the scene in front of me.”
Barry will start the day in the Attic Studio with an introduction before heading out onto the canal and giving you a short demonstration.
About Barry
‘I am a full time artist and have been painting landscapes and seascapes for many years both in the studio and en plein air with my trusty sketchbooks. My favourite medium is watercolour, its immediacy and transparency is hard to beat and I never tire of watching the colours mix and mingle on the paper. Landscapes are my first love but I am at home painting anything from portraits to steam locos. I travel extensively both home and abroad doing demonstrations and workshops to Art Clubs and Societies. I am also an author of Travelling Sketchbook, Successful and Creative Washes and Sketching Outdoors (2023). www.barryherniman.com
