Saunders Waterford
Saunders Waterford is a professional quality range of watercolour papers which are traditionally made on a cylinder mould machine. We stock a range of Saunders Waterford paper sheets, fat pads and sketchbooks all in various sizes. Approved by the Royal Watercolour Society and made from 100% cotton; the papers are suitable for use with watercolours, but also acrylics, gouache, pastels, inks, pencils, charcoal and printmaking.
Like Bockingford, Saunders Waterford is a St Cuthbert's Mill brand. The master papermakers of St Cuthbert's Mill have been producing the highest quality artists' papers since the 18th century and are still working on the same site. The company operators one of the few working cylinder mould machines left in the world.
The skilled craftsmen at St Cuthbert's Mill use the know-how that has been passed down through several generations. They have an in depth understanding of the science of paper and the way the tiniest details can affect the finished paper. Only pure, raw ingredients are used and these are sourced with cleanliness and performance in mind. The local water, which is naturally filtered, is also important to the manufacturing process and the qualities of the papers.
The Saunders Waterford papers are archival quality with each sheet being buffed with calcium carbonate to protect against the discolouration caused by the acids in pollution and the distinctive and attractive surfaces are created by the use of woollen felts which result in a random texture. The surface is sized in gelatine and so they are very strong and resilient to scrubbing.
The Pegasus Art range features stunning Saunders Waterford Fat Pads and sheet papers in hot pressed (smooth), NOT (medium texture) and rough finishes. We also offer Saunders Waterford Hardback Sketchpads which are great for taking out and about with you and have 28 sheets per sketchbook.
