Founded in Paris in 1862, Charbonnel specialised in the production of inks for intaglio and lithographic printing. Serving artists such as Picasso, Renoir, Degas and Manet, the company soon enjoyed an impressive reputation in France and beyond. Charbonnel inks has continued to improve and evolve and they remain pre-eminent in the field of Intaglio inks.

Of professional quality, Charbonnel intaglio etching inks boast exceptional lightfastness and low acidity. The inks feature ground pigments, blended with a binder and the highest quality polymerised linseed oil. Charbonnel inks benefit from a high pigment content and impressive consistency of colour across the range. Charbonnel inks are specially designed for intaglio techniques. This is where the ink sits in the marks below the surface of the plate and is the opposite of relief printing.
