Since 2005 our passionate team of artists, led by Jane Fisher, has been serving the worldwide artistic community from our beautiful and characterful converted mill in the Cotswolds Valleys.
Jane Fisher is a graduate in fine arts and a talented professional artist who divides her time between her own artistic endeavours and her work at Pegasus Art. Jane and the rest of our team simply love what we do and strive to offer an unrivalled range of art materials and supplies, together with friendly and informed advice and a warm welcome to professionals and amateurs alike. There is a community feel and a vibrant atmosphere at Pegasus which is why artists travel to visit us from far and wide to find the materials and advice they need, together with a liberal dose of creative inspiration!
Griffin Mill is located at Thrupp, near Stroud, in Gloucestershire and is a fabulous and atmospheric converted Victorian Mill in the heart of the stunning Cotswolds Valleys. The mill features 6 artist studios and three new artist pods in our newly refurbished Attic Studios. We offer a wide programme of fine art workshops from Studio One and the Attic Studios for all disciplines and abilities. We are thrilled to regularly welcome distinguished artists to Griffin Mill who always motivate and inspire. It is a place to learn, to grow and to make new friends in a Cotswold Valley setting. Meet the Team
Jane Fisher, Director of Pegasus Art, started the business in 2005 and has driven its’ growth to become one of the key suppliers of art materials in the UK and abroad. Jane sets a welcoming and happy tone and has created a hub for the artist community of Stroud and beyond. After taking a break from a business career to study a Fine Art painting degree at University of Gloucestershire, it was a lecture given by a visiting expert from Royal Talens that sparked an interest in art materials. It is a passion that has developed with a particular interest in fine art paper. Her first exhibition was with Jerwood Drawing in 2000. Her in-depth knowledge, pursuit of new products, developments and contacts in the industry has given a real authenticity to the brand. Customers see Pegasus Art as an authority on art materials and a source of genuine advice and support.
Chris joined Pegasus Art soon after it opened in 2005 and is the ‘go – to’ person for everything you need to know about oil painting and stretching canvas! She is our in-house bespoke canvas maker, with experience of all kinds of stretching challenges! Chris gained her BA Hons Fine Art in 1982 and paints landscapes, still life and more recently lino prints from her studio in nearby Piccadilly Mill. She regularly exhibits with SVA Open Studios and has years of teaching experience. She has an extensive knowledge of art materials and advice on colour mixing is freely given!
Nadine is our most recent member of staff, joining in February 2018. She is already an invaluable member of staff, drawing on her Illustration degree from UWE and MA from the Royal College of Art in Communication Art & Design. She has a studio in Stroud where she works mainly in watercolour producing large scale paintings and more detailed views of nature. Nadine has a broad knowledge of art materials is and she is always happy to help and offer advice. Brilliant sense of humour! Follow her Instagram account: @nadine_james_artist
Sarah is the marketing support at Pegasus Art, scheduling the growing programme of workshops, talks and annual Open Studios event. Writing press releases, the blog, advertising, social media and all the other elements required to promote the art materials and workshops here at Pegasus Art. Since graduating with a degree in Italian from UCL and completing a short course at Slade School of Fine Art, Sarah has worked in marketing ever since, most recently for a painting holiday company. She loves all the people coming in and out, copywriting and graphic design. Most likely to be heard saying, “I’ve had an idea.” Writes art reviews for Good on Paper magazine. Twitter: @sarahwordbird
Digby is our much loved Shop Dog and most popular member of staff. He likes to lie in doorways and offer you one paw or, if you’re lucky, two! He’s partial to a chicken sandwich and loves walking along the Stroud water canal behind our mill. He loves the routine of coming into the shop and hanging out with his friends. Kerry has worked at Pegasus Art for the past eight years and is an integral part of the team. With a first class Fine Art drawing degree and Masters from the University of Bath, Kerry is perfectly placed to offer advice and assistance to all our customers, many of whom are professional artists. She teaches private classes and regular workshops at Pegasus Art and New Brewery Arts. She has a studio at the Centre of Science and Art in Stroud and is always drawing and painting, with a passion for ink. Her work is in the permanent collection at The British Museum and she has exhibited at The Royal Academy Summer Show, Jerwood Drawing Prize and The National Open Art Competition. She regularly exhibits and participates in SIT Select Open Studios every year. Keeps us all running with a damn fine coffee every morning!
Suzanne, otherwise known as Jane’s ‘right-hand woman’, has been with Pegasus since 2006 and has been pivotal in implementing the fun atmosphere Pegasus has become known for. Her organisational skills help keep the chaos running smoothly and is often to be heard saying ‘who left that there?!’ Much loved by customers and staff alike, Suzanne ‘The manager’ is key to keeping systems running properly and also has the loudest laugh in the building. She has the best telephone voice in Britain.
Penel has a Fashion and Textiles degree from Central Saint Martins and has worked internationally, notably setting up a swimwear design studio in Sydney, Australia. She joined Pegasus Art in 2011 and paints in her riverside studio in Chalford. Her latest series of paintings are large, architectural works in oil. She is always happy and bubbly, ready to give advice, often acting as our in-house model for photoshoots! Penel works with Chris to stretch canvases and knows an awful lot about paint techniques.
