Learn how to paint plein air in beautiful Painswick village & how to incorporate people into your paintings
We’re thrilled to welcome back Roger Dellar as a visiting tutor to Pegasus Art. With many years of painting and teaching experience under his belt, Roger will lead a small group out into the stunning landscapes of the Painswick valley, just a short walk from the town. The Assembly Room in Painswick Church Rooms will be our base for the weekend. This is an exciting opportunity to learn from a talented and admired British painter.
Here is a rough outline of what to expect:
Day One:
- Roger will give his approach to painting plein air talking about surfaces, paints, brushes, easels etc.
- You’ll discuss ‘alla prima’ (painting in one go) on the spot, and the method of working from general into detail.
- Roger will give a short demo (maximum 1.5 hours) showing you how to select your subject, choose your palette of colours and layout and explaining his thought process – what to leave in and what to take out.
- Take an early lunch – please bring a packed lunch, flask of tea, water and snacks. Also appropriate clothing and footwear for both sun or rain!
- Spend the afternoon painting a subject of your choice with help where needed until 3.40pm when there will be a critique to wind up the day.
Day Two:
- According to the outcome of Day One, Roger will do another demo in the morning if necessary, adjusting his approach to reinforce or bring in new ideas to advance your progress!
- The rest of the day follows the format of Day One.
Recommended Equipment List
- Paints: Try and buy the highest quality oil paints you can. Roger recommends the Winsor & Newton range in these colours (but don’t feel you have to buy them all); Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow Hue, Cadmium Yellow Pale, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Scarlet Lake, Permanent Rose, Ultramarine, Ceruleum Blue, Cobalt Blue Hue, Burnt Sienna
- Roger also uses Winsor & Newton Alkyd white for fast drying
- Mediums: Zest It flow medium or one third Damar Varnish, one third Linseed Oil, one third Zest It

About Roger
Roger is a professional figurative artist working in oils, pastels, acrylics and water-based media. He is interested in observing people in their environments and attempts to interpret them, capturing light effects. Known for his deftness of hand, he paints quickly often alla prima. He was a member of the council of Royal Institute of Oil Painters and has now moved to the Royal Society of Watercolours council. He has exhibited widely in some of the most prestigious societies and is a member of many, just recently being elected as an Associate Member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists. Free UK Mainland Delivery on Orders Over £50*
*except 275cm and 300cm stretcher bars.
Delivery is charged as priced on each order (International delivery exceptions apply).
Standard Delivery: We aim to process and dispatch orders within two days. However at peak order times this may not always be possible so please allow 3-5 days for processing.
If you are unavailable when our delivery partner tries to deliver your order, they will usually try to deliver again the next working day or they will drop a card in to offer you a collection from a local collection point. If you should refuse delivery of goods, or are not available to accept the delivery on both delivery attempts, you will be required to cover any extra costs incurred.

Click and collect is available at our Stroud shop. Please await our confirmation email before collecting. Proof of order required to pick up goods.

Returns
We hope you are very happy with every purchase from Pegasus Art however if you are not entirely satisfied we are here to help.
Please contact us by phone or email on info@pegasusart.co.uk. This is so one of our staff can determine whether you would like to return the product for a refund or exchange the product.
Returns
You have 28 calendar days to return an item from the date you received it.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. Your item must be in the original packaging.
Your item needs to have the receipt or proof of purchase.
Refunds
Once we have received your item and inspected it we will contact you.
If your return is approved, we will initiate an immediate exchange or refund to your credit card (or original method of payment). You will receive the credit within a certain amount of days, depending on your card issuer's policies.
Shipping
Products returned by you because of a defect will be refunded in full, including a refund of the delivery charges for sending the item to you and the cost incurred by you in returning the item to us.
Products returned by you within the seven-day cooling-off period will be refunded in full, including the cost of sending the item to you. However, you will be responsible for the cost of returning the item to us.
