Description

Dreamy Waterways of Kerala (watercolour & gouache) with Kevin Scully

Saturday 15th June 2024

10am – 4pm

Studio One

All abilities welcome, including beginners

A one-day workshop in which we will be combining two mediums: the translucent qualities of watercolour together with the opaque characteristics of gouache to produce some exciting paintings based on the beautiful and atmospheric waterways of Kerala, India. We will be working primarily in watercolour and using gouache where more opaque passages are required. The two mediums are water-based, so they can be used independently or mixed together. We will be focusing on atmospheric, luminous skies and reflections with watercolour washes, and using gouache to enhance and add detail where required. All reference material will be provided but you are welcome to bring along any images that you would like to work from.

Recommended Equipment List

The shop will be open from 9am, so you will have time to purchase materials before the workshop. All attendees receive 5% off in our shop adjacent to Studio One at Pegasus Art.

- Watercolours: Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolours, Schmincke, and Daniel Smith are all good makes. Kevin doesn’t recommend the Cotman range. This is just a suggestion of colours, but don’t feel pressured to buy them all. https://www.pegasusart.co.uk/painting-watercolours.irc

Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Red, Winsor Violet, or Dioxazine Purple, Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Blue, French Ultramarine, Viridian, or Phthalo Green, Hookers Green, Raw Sienna, or Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Burnt Umber, Payne's grey.

-Gouache: Winsor & Newton, or Schmincke Horadam are both excellent makes. Depending on brand, here is a reasonable selection of colours. Some brands give their own name to similar colours. Please bring along whatever you can, especially Titanium White, and a range of blues. https://www.pegasusart.co.uk/painting-gouache.irc

Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow Light, or Primary Yellow, Cadmium Red, or Primary Red, Raw Sienna or Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Cobalt Blue, Primary Blue, or Helio Blue, Ultramarine, Violet, or Purple, Permanent Green, or Permanent Green Deep, Black.
