Studio Essentials ~ Alison Vickery
Pegasus Art tutor and professional artist Alison Vickery shares her Studio Essentials with us.
I could not be without….
My restored old plan chest which stores so much. If I didn’t have it I would need a studio four times the size! It is also where I can set up still life subjects. I have lost count of the times people have tried to buy it at Open Studios.
My Sketchbooks
This photo just shows the ones I have on the go at the moment. I like to try different papers, sizes and formats so Pegasus Art is like a sweet shop for me sketchbook wise.
I particularly like working on brown paper with gouache at the moment. Seawhite square sketchbooks are always a favourite and I am loving the ring bound Pink Pig sketchbooks. They are great for working outdoors as they bend back on themselves, they are really stable and I love the quality of the paper (and the colour of the covers!).
My paintings usually start as sketches in one of these, lots of drawing – editing what I see, working out what interests me and what I want to say about it. I am seldom without a sketchbook.
I make endless cups of tea, lots of which I don’t drink as they go cold! Radio 4 and Spotify are my two other studio essentials.
Alison has been working on a series of paintings in lockdown called ‘Pathways’.
Alison’s work is available to buy online here. She is currently exhibiting at Slimbridge Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust.
At the time of writing, Alison is running her regular art classes via Zoom, asking students to make a donation to the Stroud Women’s Refuge.
