How to paint a botanical orchid
Top Tips for orchid painting at home from our resident botanical tutor Karen Green
I hope you are well and staying positive in this difficult time. Thank goodness for all these wonderful weather. I am thoroughly missing running my Botanical Art workshops so thought I would send out some ideas so you can still keep on creating art! Obviously, please do not feel under any pressure to complete this activity- it is purely for those who want to!
On Saturday 30th May I should have been teaching the skills of botanically recording the beautiful orchid and so I have included a step-by-step worksheet for drawing the flower face-on and then a brief guide to painting it. Please do not worry if you do not have the exact colours, try to find one that is similar. Otherwise you can always order art materials on-line from Pegasus Art Shop.
I have also attached a photograph of the Phalaenopis orchid (commonly known as the moth orchid) to use as reference as I’m sure you do not all have an orchid growing in your house. (Please do look at the real thing if you do have one, although of course, with all the different varieties, yours may look completely different to the one I have drawn from!)
I would also like to take this opportunity to tell you that I have just opened an Etsy shop! Finally!! Shop here.
Wishing you all the best, happy painting and I look froward to seeing you again some time in the future!
