Description

Konnayaku starch powder for making kamiko and momi 50gm - Paper Size

Wonderful if pricey product, the starch powder goes a long way.  Konnyaku is powdered Devil's Tongue root, a natural plant starch that, when mixed with water and applied by brush to paper, gives extra strength, waterproofing and memory to those papers. Transforms paper magically to cloth. Instructions available with purchase.

The Konnayaku powder has been used for centuries to coat papers making it possible to use art paper to make fine art installations, create purses, handbags, as a lining for clothing (momigami) and other paper clothing.

Processed from the tuberous root of the devil's tongue plant, diluted with water the jelly-like result is applied to paper to strengthen the surface.  The paper will be stronger and more flexible.  The paper's pore's are filled in making it become more wind and water resistant as well as with improved heat retention whislt still remaining breathable.

Recipe:  1 tsp of konnyaku powder to one cup of room temperative water

Ready to use when thick and smooth, the solution may be diluted for more delicate papers.

Use stiff wide brush to apply the konnyaku paste to both sides of the paper.
