Pegasus Art Open Studios 2018

Pegasus Open Studios 2018

5th, 6th, 12th & 13th May ~ a Select Trail event

Every year, for two weekends in May, we open seven artist studios in our handsome, 18th century red brick mill building. Open Studios in the Stroud Valleys is a very popular national event organised by SIT Select  with over a hundred studios open to the public.

Alongside the private studios, Pegasus Art has an extensive art supplies shop and a large teaching space where the happy hum of workshops and art classes buzzes throughout the year. We are proud to act as a hub for the lively artist community of Stroud and beyond. We share our building with Susie Harding and Gloucestershire Print Co-operative, so it’s a fantastic place to visit with plenty to see.

Open Studios is an exciting opportunity to meet professional artists and see them at work in their private spaces. It’s a chance to ask questions, observe their daily rituals and admire their work up close. There is a huge array of unique artwork for sale, many at studio prices. Take advantage of the 10% discount* on art materials too….now is your chance to stock up on materials or invest in quality equipment and investment pieces like an easel.

*in store only, not online.

Exhibiting Artists:

Attic Studios

Jane Fisher, fine artist and Director of Pegasus, paints under the eaves in her light filled studio ~ a space where glider wings were once produced during the War! Jane works in oil on a large scale and is currently absorbed by Cornish landscapes.

Kerry Phippen, a popular ink artist, well known for her delicate depictions of animals, will share the attic with a ‘pop up’ studio. A chance to see large scale ink paintings from The Gentle Wild series with new monoprints on Japanese papers. www.kerryphippenart.com Twitter @kerryphippen Instagram @kerryphippenart

First Floor Studios

Nicola Grellier (shortlisted for the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize 2018) is currently enjoying a Masters in Fine Art at UWE Bristol. Nicola is an artist who enjoys working in collage, oil and charcoal – drawing is at the heart of her work. Current themes include self-perception, self-presentation and self-delusion, exploring the ’empty dress’. Monochrome, repeat patterns often feature. www.nicolagrellier.co.uk Twitter @Nicola_grellier Instagram @nick_grellier

Paul Fowler is a fine artist with a passion for historical and cultural references. Discover his collection of antique lay figures and the evocative oil paintings they inspire. These 18th century mannequins were once used by royal portrait painters and their history, cultural and military references weave throughout his work. Large, scale atmospheric oil paintings are available to buy. Paul is also leading a Select Trail workshop (11am) and talk 2.30pm) on Saturday 19th May at Museum in the Park, Stroud. To book, please contact Paul fowlerlayfigures@gmail.com

Teresa Poole. Inspiration for Teresa’s paintings can be credited to her work as a mural and oriental decorative artist. A mix of style and techniques modern and traditional produces a visual hybrid of east and west. Whether in her Japanese panels or more recent mixed media urban landscapes, she remains an orientalist at heart. http://www.teresapoole.co.uk

Carol Honess, Fern Cottage Studio. Carol’s screenprints and drypoint prints of seedheads, grasses and trees are very subtle and beautiful. Carol embosses natural plants onto wet clay and gives them an indigo wash, creating lovely tiles. She chooses calm hues of pale blue, teal and greys which have become a signature of her work. Lovely things to buy including cards, prints and gifts. Instagram @fern_cottage_studio

Susie Harding. Visit Susie’s large, bright studio to explore her Holy Ice series inspired by an American Indian ancient myth ~ the mystical pieces depict crystal skulls and mineral colours with evocative titles Ametrine, Agate and Citrine. http://www.susieharding.com

Ground Floor
