The British Art Prize 2024
Third Prize Pegasus Art Prize awarded to Arina Gordienko for ‘The Vanished Summer’ ~ our huge congratulations!
We take great pride in sponsoring this excellent competition each year, hosted by Artists & Illustrators magazine and sponsored by Pegasus Art, Caran d’Ache, Stabilo, Raw Umber Studios and Staedtler, so we are in good company.
The British Art Prize is particularly appealing because it is a competition open to everyone. Open to all – from amateurs to emerging and professional artists – the competition embraces all styles, media,* and techniques, making it one of the most inclusive and celebrated events in the art world.Judges do the impressive job of whittling down to 80 artworks from thousands of entrants, to curate a stand-out exhibition of shortlisted artists at the Oxo Gallery on the Southbank. Adebanji Alade PROI, the Addictive Sketcher is one of the prestigious judges.
The prizes are equally impressive, with the overall winner receiving a £2000 cash prize, £750 worth of Derwent art materials, plus a six-page feature in Artists & Illustrators magazine. We are so thrilled to present Arina Gordienko with a £500 art materials voucher from Pegasus Art as a superbly worthy Third Prize winner.
Epic in scale and jaw-droppingly beautiful, Arina briefly shared some of her process with us. Taking six months to paint, she used seven types of red alone to paint the blouse of her sitter. Her preferred oil paint is Michael Harding oils, so she will be stocking up on them with her art materials voucher, along with Da Vinci brushes. As one of the premium brush brands, made by hand in Germany, we are delighted that she will be able to replace some of her well-used brushes in the New Year. When asked, ‘Who is the model?’ she replied, ‘She is whoever you need her to be. She could even be you!’
Congratulations to Artists & Illustrators magazine for producing yet another year of fantastic art for all of us to enjoy. For more information and images of all the artworks click here.
