Art Shelter Project
Pegasus Art sponsors local bus shelter project
Stop in the name of love
Studio 18 are working with Brimscombe & Thrupp Parish Council on an exciting and playful arts project to refurbish the bus shelters along the London Road between Bowbridge and Toadsmoor near Stroud, Gloucestershire. The Art Shelter project has been inspired by an anonymous ‘vandal’ who revamped the shelter at the end of Hope Mill Lane with a ‘Stop in the name of love’ installation, including armchair and bookshelf. We want to improve the experience of bus users, whilst creating works of public art that will reinvigorate the parish and create a sense of place. As well as beautiful works of art, we intend to provide seating and adequate shelter from the elements.
Local childrens book illustrator supports the project
As part of this project, we are working with local illustrator Hannah Shaw, who will be running workshops with Thrupp School to create paintings around the theme of local wildlife. The finished paintings will be hung in a dedicated bus shelter, creating a mini public art gallery for the students to display their work. Pegasus Art have generously donated over £100 worth of paints to the school. We are also hoping to engage other schools in the area.
Stroud Brewery are also offering their support by hosting a fundraising bingo night on the Thursday 19th March at 7.30pm. Pizza will be available from 5pm and the bingo will start at 7.30pm.
For the remaining bus shelters, we will be commissioning local artists to create playful and innovative designs. Drawing from a growing pool of artists that Studio 18 has worked with over the past year, we will also be inviting young artists who took part in our 25 and Under exhibition to submit proposals, and we will be supporting them through the process.
We are looking for support from local businesses to help realise this project, either in the form of cash donations, materials or services, so please contact email@example.com if you can offer any assistance.
Kindly sponsored by Stroud Brewery, Pegasus Art and Brimscombe and Thrupp Parish.
