Ampersand Aquabord - Watercolour Boards 7/8" - 2.2cm Deep Cradled Sizes
Ampersand Aquabord - watercolour panels on 2.2cm deep cradled wood frame
What is Aquabord? New surface for watercolour painting Aquabord is an acid free textured clay surface backed with Ampersand's artist hardboard support. Absorbing your watercolour paint like a fine watercolour paper, the purity and vibrancy of your colour is enhanced. The Aquabord surface is compatible with normal watercolour painting techniques such as glazing and lifting. It can cope with compete lifting of watercolour right back to the white of the Aquabord without damaging the surface.
Aquabord surface is perfect for watercolour paints and gouache paints but is also ideal for casein and acrylic paint.
Seal your watercolour Aquabord with a watercolour fixative to protect your artwork, you can then display without glass. For further protection a Golden MSA UVLS solvent varnish or Golden Polymer UVLS acrylic varnish is recommended for a durable archival finish.
Hot Tips for using watercolour on Aquabord:
For rich vibrant colour and to lift off easily, use watercolours in a heavier consistency.
For crisp edges and sharp details, mix less water and apply to Aquabord surface dry.
For smooth washes apply an even wash of water with a large brush over surface, let air escape, then whilst board damp apply colour in washes with a soft brush (float the colour rather than dragging it)
Build layers of colour by allowing each wash to dry before applying next layer, building up unlimited number of transparent glazes to achieve stunning reflective qualities.
Lifting and removing colour to achieve highlights is best achieved using a stiff damp nylon brush. Cotton swabs, a soft white eraser or natural sea sponges for lifting can be effective.
