7th May 2022 Botanical Painting, Blossom with Karen Green
Botanical Painting ~ Blossom with Karen Green in watercolour
Saturday 7th May 2022
10am – 4pm
All abilities welcome
Working from a selection of Spring Flowers, you will learn how to compose, draw from observation and paint in detail, using water-colour, to create a finished botanical painting reflecting an understanding of the subject whilst capturing the beauty of the flower.
With Karen’s experience as a Botanical Artist you will be guided, with one to one support and class demonstrations, to mix colours carefully to match what you see, explore light and shadows and learn a little leaf botany, looking at the shape, sizes, structure and anatomy of various leaves, their vein arrangement (venation) and the important job that leaves play in the plant’s life.
During the session you will familiarize yourself with the materials and tools needed for botanical art and the techniques used, slowly building up layers of paint to create luminosity and depth.
Karen has been working as a professional artist for nearly 10 years and has taught botanical art workshops locally since 2016. Receiving a First-class honours degree at The Arts Institute at Bournemouth, she went on to work as a primary school teacher for several years before resigning to focus more on her art career. She now exhibits her work regularly in shared and solo shows.
She refers to herself as a botanical artist rather than illustrator as, although she paints with intricate detail, retaining the technical accuracy of the plant, her paintings place more emphasis on the aesthetics and artistry.
