5th Dec Mixing Colours from the Primaries with Vicki Norman
Mixing Oil Colours from the Primaries
with Vicki Norman
Saturday 5th December
10am – 3pm
Talented painter and Michael Harding Ambassador tutors an invaluable colour mixing workshop
In this workshop we’ll take a look at colour theory and learn to create many variations in colour from a limited number of pigments. In this way we can create more harmonious and sophisticated palettes for our paintings from a smaller number of colours. Simple exercises will build our skills and help to put theory into practice as we create useful scales and small colour studies.
Please wear old clothes and bring any oil painting brushes you have. A flat, non-absorbent palette will be helpful and you will need two sheets of A3 size oil painting paper or suitably primed canvas boards/canvases.
Oil paper will be available to purchase at the workshop by the sheet. All art materials are available in our shop with a 5% discount.
Small sample tubes of Michael Harding oil paints will be provided.
I’m a painter and a tutor, for me, these roles are inseparable, because teaching allows me to share my love of paint and colour. The practice of teaching has taught me that making art is really good for us! My big dream is to run painting trips to developing countries. In 2006 I managed a voluntary project in Lusaka, Zambia, teaching tie-dye and batik to tailoring students who had been widowed through HIV/AIDS. I also worked with homeless youths using recycled paper-making to generate income. It was great to use creative skills to help people change their lives for the better and I really want to do more of this work. At present I deliver painting workshops and classes around the UK and give weekly lessons to an inspiring ‘mouth painter’ with cerebral palsy who works from her wheelchair.
Over 14 years, I have delivered courses in Specialist Arts Centres, Colleges, Adult Special Needs Care, Mental Health Facilities and established a productive Art Department within a Women's Prison. Frequently, I work with adults who struggle with mental illness. The sense of fulfilment and cultural contribution I feel through this work is different from anything I can experience through the act of painting alone.
