30th May Self Portraiture in Oils & Acrylics with Mark Fennell RBSA
Self Portraiture workshop in oils or acrylics with Mark Fennell RBSA
Saturday 30th May 2020
10am - 4pm
Mark’s workshop aims to help artists develop their paint and brush handling towards achieving a characterful, expressive and realistic self portrait in oils. Mark is very hands on, so you’ll get lots of one to one tuition throughout the day. All levels welcome from beginners with some painting experience to more advanced students. Less experienced painters will work from a good quality A4 head and shoulders photograph of yourself and more advanced painters can bring a small mirror and work from life.
Mark Fennell is a professional portrait painter who works to commission from his home studio in the hill top village of Brill in Buckinghamshire. He works predominantly in oils, notable sitters include Antony Worrall Thompson, John Hood, Lord Mayor of Birmingham and singer - songwriter John Otway. His work has been selected for exhibition with The Royal Society of Portrait Painters at the Mall galleries London on a number of occasions. Mark was elected member of The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in 2007. He is also a member of Buckinghamshire Art Society and was elected member Oxford art society in 2018. As well as portraiture, Mark also enjoys the challenge of painting outdoors, working at speed to capture the fleeting effects of light over landscape. Selected for The Artist and Leisure painter competition, Patchings festival open art exhibition, 2014 and 2018. Awarded The Artists and Illustrators Artist of the year West Design prize 2012 and shortlisted for Artist of the year in 2019. Self portrait shortlisted out of nearly 10,000 entries for the Daily Mail ‘Not the Turner Prize’ and exhibited at The Mall Galleries, London in 2005. Featured on ITV’s ‘A Brush With Fame’ in 2005, portrait of Antony Worrall Thompson was chosen as his favourite.
